Vicky Cristina Barcelona for all of woody allen's hits and misses he never fails to bring the best out of his cast. bardem's never looked so comfortable in a role because he gets to be bardem. not to say that he doesn't put in an effort to enrapture the screen, but it's all masked by his natural fit into the shoes of juan antonio - like jordan in the fourth quarter. the real show stealer, however, is the convincing rebecca hall (who was shafted from the promos for penelope cruz). ultimately it's allen's genuine direction, which is hypnotic at times and relaxed at others, that makes this movie perhaps his best overall output since 1996's 'everyone says i love you'. fb1664520163 Aug 25, 2008

The Rocker Should be called: The School of Rock 2: The Band Grows Up. An ok comedy flick, which also feels more like a coming of age movie which barely speaks for Rainn Wilson's character. The House Bunny It made me laugh, not at the top of my list for the summer comedies, but still enjoyable. Also, it's a Happy Madison production. Death Race It suffers from the same ADD editing as most action movies these days. Lots of blurred motion and shaky close-ups, not enough coherent tracking shots and cohesive action. Still, it was fun and fast and there was lots of death. It was more like a Twisted Metal movie than the it was like the old Death Race 2000, which is still awesome. Mirrors Kiefer should stick to being Jack Bauer. This movie had very little suspense. It was mostly just cheap "things-pop-out-of-nowhere-with-loud-noises" scares. However, it is better than most of the asian horror remakes and it had some cool gore scenes. romulus116 Aug 28, 2008
Death Race Gratuitous. In every sense of the word. This is probably the most stereotypical action movies I have ever seen, fast cars, loud guns, big explosions, beautiful women and "witty" one-liners. All that being said, it was, by no means, a bad movie. The plot was fairly weak and all the twists were revealed (if not in the trailer) in the first 30 minutes. There was also more gore than I expected, most of it was funny, or at least shockingly amusing, though I found when some of the female characters died, it was just rather horrific. Of course, to be fair, what does one expect seeing Death Race? I mean, it delivers what it promises, intense action, mild comedy and violence. I also liked the touch of the US economy have fallen apart in 2012. Over all, it has it's flaws, in that it's a mindless action movie, however, on the up side, it IS a mindless action movie. The Rocker Funny, not great. I found it odd how the record guy says that people end up humming the songs after seeing the naked drummer because they stick with you. I'm a huge musical-minded person and leave movies humming the tunes I hear, but not this one strangely enough. The Rocker standing in front of an audience is this generation's date with marilyn monroe: a dream come sooo true, dude. and so yet another rags-to-riches story of a garage band making it to the big leagues (so reminiscent of tom hank's "that thing you do!" that i had to slap myself...or was tom himself slapping me...), only this one's "twist" is that the spark to fame and fortune is an ex-old-school-heavy-metal rocker's second chance. surprisingly...it's a balanced effort, with not terrible music, and with a smile or two included. i liked this. moonrivers Aug 18, 2008

The Rocker I was literally the only person in the theater when I saw this movie, wich is unfortunate because I liked it pretty well. I love it when you know virtually every actor in the movie. Here you've got fairly big names in insignificant parts, which is always alot of fun. Really liked Will Arnett and Jason Sudeikis, both were dead-on. And Rainn Wilson, of course. And really, it was a great picture of the unglamorous aspects of entertainment. The House Bunny No, all the funny parts *have not* been shown in the sneak peaks, so don't fear - go see the movie for the fluff it is and enjoy it (except for maybe H. Hefner's acting ability or lack thereof). I've seen better reviewed films that I've enjoyed way less than this film. Star Wars: The Clone Wars This show has been getting a real beating by the movie critics and reviewers. I have not read a single positive review with even one calling it a 2 hour commercial for Star Wars toys, and many deriding it for having absolutely no plot and character development. Thankfully the truth is not as bad as those probably biased reviewers had made it to be. There is a story behind the rather silly notion of the baby of Jabba the Hutt being kidnapped by Count Dooku in an attempt to turn Jabba against the Republic. And how Anakin together with his new Padawan Ahsoka had to save baby Jabba and returned him to papa before Jabba fell into Dooku’s deceptions. Along the way, we are treated to a number of battle sequences involving lots of clones and droids and all the guns and ships and tanks we saw from Attack of the Clones. While there was nothing wrong with those action pieces, the problem is that after being treated to the glorious CGI of ILM in 2 episodes of Star Wars, the animation in The Clone Wars just does not cut it. As this is Star Wars, a few light sabar duels are obligatory; and again while there was nothing really wrong with Obi-Wan vs Asajj and Anakin vs Dooku, after seeing Yoga vs Emperor and Obi-Wan vs General Greevious in Ep 3, those fights were boring. I was expecting the fights to include stuffs that were too dangerous or impossible to pull off with CGI or in real life but those were probably the least exciting fights I can remember from Star Wars in a long time. The reviewer does get one thing right and that is Ahsoka was as annoying as hell in the movie. For someone who is supposedly still learning the way of the Force, she was just way too cocky and she does get on your nerve after a while. I have never remembered a padawan that was so accomplished with the use of the Force as Ahsoka was. I think she was a better Jedi in The Clone Wars than Anakin was in Episode 2. Still it was good to see all the gang back in action especially Obi-Wan, Yoga and Windu., including Padme who was heavily involved in exposing Dooku’s scheme in the end. I was however a little disappointed to learn from the credits that only Christopher Lee, Samuel L Jackson and Anthony Daniels reprised their respective roles for the movie. It was also good to see Anakin as a good Jedi before he was corrupted by the Emperor. Overall The Clone Wars would probably interest only the die hard Star Wars nut heads who will want to know every last details of the Star Wars mythology. Mirrors Je suis allé voir Miroirs et ce n'est pas fort. Histoire qui dans la première motié du film ne va nulle part et est plate et dans le 2ième partie du film semble un mélange de plusieurs film (Le Cercle, The Grunge, etc). Effets spéciaux déja vu dans d'autres films et manqués la plupart du temps. L'actrice noire (femme de Keifer Sutherland dans le film) est très poche. Le films se passe 60% du temps dans le noir. On voit venir l'histoire et 'les bouts angoissants' d'avances. Finalement à voir le mardi à $5.00 si ça vous démange, sinon attendre le DVD. Nous étions 4 dans la salle! Death Race Lots of action... Little story line...If you want to see action this movie is jamed packed with action! The story line that was there was predictable but that didn't matter once you saw how many different ways they could destroy a car and kill people off. Star Wars: The Clone Wars I was excited to see this movie as I hoped it would give me what the prequels didn't, a good solid storyline. My hopes have been dashed yet again!! The combination of fart jokes and a crossing dressing Hutt totally killed me. Not to mention Anakin walking into Tatooine like nothing ever happened. (Blew all my EU readings out of the water!)
