Uhh. We'll i read the book and i found the book also kinda dull and boring. The movie was okay. It was kinda a waste of time. This was alright,
Hmmmm,Wow I'm so not happy I spent my time watching this. This is not a recommendation. This honestly has to be one of the most stupid movies I have ever seen =(
Doesn't this just seem like a mix between The Descent and Ringu?
I don't even know where to begin with this movie. It had some gory scenes, but that was about it. I will have to say though the people watching / protecting the ruins was no joke.
Oh god we have a winner. Best horror movie of 2008. And so underrated, it almost didn't reach Italy.
the ending wasent crap they had to do it that way to leave the film open to a sequel beaucase if it does more than reasonably ok at the cinema then they will do another beacause there is loads of places they can take the film thank yiou

To anyone wondering about the "sacrifice": There was no sacrifice. The tourists thought at one point they were being sacrificed, but as they explained later, the villagers were only forced them to stay there and die becuase they figured once they touched the plants, they were "contaminated" and didn't want it to spread. They want to keep it contained. That's why they mentioned how they salted the earth so the plants couldn't grow out farther, and even animals and birds learned not to go there. The villagers were not evil villains, they were simply protecting themselves and the rest of the jungle.
p.s. the only problem I have is with the ending - very quick and anti-climactic
Anyone who thinks this was boring isn't looking for a scary movie, they just want gore. It's nice to see a horror flick that doesn't rely on cheap scares or over-the-top gore and kills. The Ruins instead opts for a much more effective slowly growing sense of fear and dread. I'll take something like this over the entire Saw and Hostel series any day.
And ya gotta give it credit for not watering down for a PG13 like so many lame horror flicks these days.
The film delivers several creepy & gory moments that are very effective besides some great performances by the cast. What i didn't get was a good explanation related to the sacrifice & a ending that was totally a disappointment but other that,it was a enjoyable & gruesome horror film.
